Harper College will be closed Tuesday, November 5 in observance of Election Day.
The Harper College Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs are seeking volunteers to be scanned by students who are getting ready to work in a hospital setting. Volunteers will help prepare students to perform critical ultrasounds that can save lives.
Available ultrasound exams include carotid artery (participants 50 years or older) and liver ultrasound (participants 18 years or older, able to fast for 4 hours prior to the exam).
Limited appointments are available and will begin in late September. Exams will be scheduled for between 4 and 7 p.m. on select weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
The free exams last about an hour and are non-diagnostic. Volunteers will not receive a medical report but may be instructed to follow up with a physician. All exams will be performed by students on state-of-the-art equipment, under the supervision of a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. Harper’s program conforms to all patient safety regulations.
To request an appointment, please call the Harper College Diagnostics Imaging Lab at 847.925.6104 and leave a message with your name and phone number. Lab staff will return calls to schedule an appointment.
