Harper College will be closed Tuesday, November 5 in observance of Election Day.
Lilly Alberts, who competes on both the Harper College Track and Field and Cross Country teams, has been piling up awards lately.
On February 13, the sophomore was named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week in the NCJAA women’s category for track and field. It came on the heels of her February 10 performance at Grand Valley State University’s Big Meet, at which she ran the 800 meters in 2:07.81, setting a Harper record and rating No. 4 all-time on the NCJAA all-conditions indoor list.
This is the first time any athlete from Harper has been named Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. It’s the 10th Athlete of the Week honor for Alberts, who has earned the award seven times in cross country and twice in outdoor track and field.
In addition, Alberts was named the NJCAA Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year among Division III cross country athletes. Both Harper’s men’s and women’s cross country teams were also named National Scholar Teams of the Year for DIII. Women’s team members Araxi Boghossian, Kasey Ledinsky, Claudia Wojciechowski and Isabella Wojciechowski, and men’s team members Marcos Jaimes, Konrad Jakubowski, Jason Schmidt and Carter Swearingen were named All-Academic Athletes.
The Illinois House of Representatives recently honored the accomplishments of Harper’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams, as well the individual awards for Alberts and Coach James Macnider. Illinois Rep. Mary Beth Canty sent Certificates of Recognition to celebrate each team’s DIII national championship, the Gary Moore Award for the best overall cross country program, Alberts’ Athlete of the Year (Central Region) honor and Macnider’s Coach of the Year (Central Region) and USTFCCC National Coach of the Year awards.
