Harper College will be closed Tuesday, November 5 in observance of Election Day.
Harper College’s new Back Porch Revue – a nod to American folk music of the early 20th century – is gearing up for its debut concert.
The performance will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 17, in the Performing Arts Center on the College’s main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.
Directed by Scott Cashman, the ensemble features musicians playing a variety of instruments. Selections include “I’ll Fly Away,” “Rye Whiskey” and a holiday sing-along.
The Back Porch Revue is part of the Continuing Education department’s Community Music and Arts Center. Members explore the music of the American South around the turn of the century in genres including early blues and country music, old time, folk, spirituals and more.
Tickets to the December 17 performance are $7 to $10; children 12 and under are admitted for free.
