ESL Registration
Welcome to the Academic ESL Program at Harper College
To start taking academic ESL courses follow these steps.
1. Complete a Harper College Application. If you have any questions about the application or if you need assistance with filling
it out, please visit our admissions office* in Building C, Room C103, or call 847-925-6700.
- Select Credit Seeking Student when applying. DO NOT SELECT NON CREDIT SEEKING STUDENT. ESL classes are tuition-based credit classes. Click here for costs.
- For student type, select Student At Large.
- For the program, select English as a Second Language.
- Pay a $25 application fee. Contact us if you need help paying this fee.
- You will receive your Harper Student ID number and username. Additionally, you will
receive instructions on how to set up your student portal. You need access to your
student portal to access your student email.You will receive your Harper Student ID number and username. Additionally, you will

student portal to access your student email.You will receive an email that will include your Harper Student ID number and username.
You will receive another email with instructions for setting up your student portal.
Accessing your student portal is essential for checking your student email, registering
for class, payments, and more.
* If you choose to visit the admissions office for assistance, please clearly state
that you want to complete the application for the paid Academic ESL program (credit
application). Please note that non-credit applications are not acceptable for the
Academic ESL program.
2. Schedule your free ESL testing appointment.
Make your appointment online on MyHarper Student Portal under the "For ESL Students"
card. For instructions on how to schedule a testing appointment, click here. Testing is done in person on Harper's main campus.

- Or visit our office in Building D, Room D138 (You will need to provide your Harper
ID number)
After booking your ESL test appointment, you will receive a confirmation email to
your student email, not your personal email.
3. Attend your testing appointment. You must check in 15 minutes early and bring photo ID.
- Take placement tests in reading and writing
- Meet with a professor for an interview
- Receive your English level (II, III, IV, or V)
4. Register and pay for your classes.
