English Series for Professionals

The English Series for Professionals (ESP) program is designed for professionals who want to improve their language skills to achieve success in their career and everyday life. Key areas of study include pronunciation, vocabulary and conversation, as well as other specialized courses that students can choose from.

The English Series for Professionals is for you if:

  • You have completed your degree and work professionally
  • You have completed your degree and are seeking employment
  • You are a high level ESL student
  • You desire to strengthen your English skills to advance your professional and personal goals

ESP Certificate completerThe English Series for Professionals program offers a course schedule that can be adapted to fit your busy life. Our goal is to help you reach your goals – both professional and personal. Students are given two to six semesters to complete the program. Students choose their course load each semester and also decide the order in which they take the courses. ESP students need a total of   10-credit hours to finish the program and earn a departmental certificate of achievement.

Requirements: 6 to 7 credit hours from the following

ESL 072 Academic Communication Skills IV   - 3 credit hours   OR

ESL 039 Conversation IV  - 2 credit hours OR

ESL 007 Communication Skills for ESL   - 2 credit hours
Focuses on the development of conversation skills for high intermediate English as a Second Language students. Concentrates on areas necessary for successful communication in a variety of American settings. 

ESL 077 Advanced Vocabulary I - 2 credit hours   OR

ESL 087 Advanced Vocabulary II - 2 credit hours
Focuses on the vocabulary of formal American English speech and writing for advanced English as a Second Language students. Emphasizes words and expressions associated with academic style and register. 

ESL 085 Pronunciation Skills - 2 credit hours
Focuses on improvement of pronunciation skills. Designed for advanced English as a Second Language students. Emphasizes connected speech, including such features as sounds, stress, intonation, and timing.
