Harper College will be closed on Wednesday, February 12 in observance of Lincoln's Day.
The growth of 3D printing in our communities has accelerated the production of waste
plastic. By keeping plastic out of landfills, we are able to provide more opportunities
for sparking creative development by reusing this waste plastic in its entirety, bringing
waste levels down to nearly zero.
This is why we started the Harper Regenerate Program, where we collect waste plastics, including support plastic, failed prints, and prototypes to remanufacture into spools of usable, printable filament. Initially, we will start with the specific collection of PLA plastic, which is the most popular and common choice for printing, today. Through the cooperation of our partners, we are looking forward to expanding our outreach by placing plastic collection bins at partnered schools, libraries, and makerspaces, all of which will be collected by Harper and brought to campus, where the sustainable remanufacturing process will take place.
With these remanufactured rolls, we can continue to support social projects both on campus and in our communities by aiding students in the development of their ideas, innovations, and creations.
