Student Conduct

Harper College offers procedures and resources for students, faculty, and staff to address behavioral concerns and conflicts affecting the Harper College community. This involves a balance of individuals' rights, the safety of the campus community, and the preservation of the educational environment.

The role of Student Conduct is to:

  • advocate for students and the learning environment through College policies and procedures,
  • facilitate the student conduct process for alleged student violations of College policies,
  • advise students on their rights in the conduct process and in campus complaint procedures,
  • provide consultation and resources for faculty and staff as they address low-level student behavioral concerns informally,
  • offer procedural advice to faculty and staff,
  • conduct investigations and ensure that campus responses to reports of sexual and gender-based misconduct are compliant with Title IX,
  • provide conflict resolution and mediation services when appropriate,
  • work with the Harper Early Alert Team (HEAT) in evaluating and mitigating potential threats of targeted violence, and in addressing behaviors before they become policy violations.

Parents and family members can play an important part in supporting a student as he/she participates in a student conduct process.

Members of the community who are affected by student behavior while on campus may also report a concern to be reviewed by HEAT and/or Student Conduct. This is especially encouraged for any indicators of possible violence or other threats.
