Write a three to four-page essay in which you express your view on the following questions:
What are the essential components of the “underworld” in the various texts we’ve read thusfar? In other words, what would you say the geography of the underworld consists of? Why do you think these elements are included? Do they speak to any universal human concern or anxiety about death and the afterlife?
In case you’re wondering, you are being asked to write a 3-4 page contemplation on the nature of the pre-Christian underworld, the rationale for the elements of the underworld, and the relation of these notions to the “human condition” (ie, that we all die!).
Please give your paper a title and format it according to the handout entitled “Formatting Essays.”
