Buddy System

The Harper College Buddy System program is an initiative to help connect Harper students who would like to meet friends or Two stick figures giving one another a high five establish new connections (whether you're taking in-person or virtual classes). We know college can be a big adjustment – whether you’re transitioning from high school, transferring from another college, currently a Harper student or coming back to college after some time away – the Buddy System connects you with another Harper student! FREE Nutrition Consultationsgreen vegetables

The Harper College Center for Nutrition Counseling (CNC), in collaboration with Harper Wellness, is offering a free health screening, individualized nutrition counseling and nutrition education services to Harper students, alumni, and faculty. The CNC is run by current Harper College dietetic interns and overseen by Registered Dietitians beginning Spring 2024. Appointments will become available late January 2024.

Here is a list of some of the services we can provide:
-Complete nutrition assessment to develop a plan for a healthy lifestyle
-Individualized meal planning and recipes
-Analyze food intake
-Blood pressure screening, body fat measurements, blood sugar screening and cholesterol screening. A once a month meeting with a dietetic intern to discuss goals and progress will also be included. 

Students, employees, alumni, and community members are able to schedule free nutrition consultations with the dietetic interns. Upon completion of this form, you will then be sent information about how to schedule your first initial nutrition consultation with one of the interns. Consultations can be completed virtually or in-person, depending on the needs of the individual.

In-Person Group Exercise Classes

Campus Recreation and Harper Wellness offer a variety of group exercise classes FREE for Harper students and Health and Recreation Center members! Our classes are led by certified group exercise instructors with expertise in providing motivating, challenging and fun group exercises classes to a wide range of populations. Formats include HIIT, strength, yoga, spin and full body circuit and total body barre. Our in-person group exercise classes are limited to ten participants (first come first served) to follow physical distancing protocols. Below is the summer group exercise class schedule. Group Exercise Class Descriptions

Core & More

Core training is the foundation of all movement. This class will improve functional strength for daily activities, improve balance, pelvic health and tighten and tone the mid-section. (All levels)

Flex & Ride

This circuit style workout is set to motivating music in the cycling studio. Flex and Ride combines segments of resistance strength training with upbeat cycling to help tone and strengthen your muscles and build overall cardiovascular endurance.  Arrive early for set up. (All levels.)  

FST (Functional Strength Training)

Build lean and strong muscles through exercises that mimic the movement of everyday life while increasing overall endurance. This class uses a variety of equipment for a total body workout. (All levels)

Healthy Back Yoga

Healthy Back Yoga helps reduce stress through safe postural poses and core strengthening techniques. Students are encouraged to stay within their individual limitations by progressing gradually through the various levels of the poses. Props are often used to help support and adapt the poses for everybody. (All levels)

Guided Flow Yoga

Precise dynamic poses are sequenced together to create a moving meditation that helps calm the mind, increase flexibility, and build strength. This class is fully guided. (All levels)

Power Hour

Join us for this interval style class alternating cardio segments possibly the track (walk, run or jog) with strength segments utilizing a variety of equipment incuding body bars, free weights, resistance bands, medicine balls, kettle bells, and the BOSU. (All levels)

Total Body Barre

This amazing class combines core training with easy to follow ballet exercises to improve balance, activate the abdominals, pelvic floor, and back. (All Levels)

Yin Yoga

Passive yoga poses are held longer to target the deepest tissues and the connective tissue allowing the muscles to relax. This class is fully guided. (All Levels)

ZUMBA®

This dance based aerobic workout features movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance and are performed primarily to Latin American and Pop dance music. (All Levels)
