Allstate Assistive Technology Lab
What is the Assistive Technology Lab?
The lab is located adjacent to Access and Disability Services in room D116. It is equipped with several computers which have a variety of specialized software and hardware applications. Assistive Technology is any software and or hardware tool(s) that facilitate easier access to computers for learning. Using special software packages and changing means of input or output will allow people with disabilities to use a computer.
Who benefits from the Assistive Technology Lab? Students with disabilities or others who need alternative ways to read, write, research, type, etc. on campus computer systems.
Where can I learn more about the Assistive Technology Lab?
Call x6266 from any campus phone or call 847.925.6266
to make an appointment for an orientation or training
time with an AT Specialist. The training is done in the
Allstate Technology Lab, D116, which is located in Building
D. Orientation takes approximately one hour depending
on the software.
What
is the Allstate Technology Lab?
The Assistive Technology lab in ADS is named the Allstate
Lab because of a longtime partnership between ADS and
Allstate Insurance Co. Allstate provided the College with
multiple grants over a period of 12 years, for use in
purchasing software and hardware.
Where can I find computers with assistive technology software on them?
Computers can be found throughout Harper. The majority
of them are located in the D116. Other computers are located
in the mega lab in I223. Students can also find computers
in F233. Some offices may have individual computers as
well. If a student needs software or hardware temporarily
installed on a classroom machine, that can be arranged.
