Web designers help businesses design their
"home page" on the World Wide Web. The web designer
decides how the site should look and what information it should
provide and how that information should be organize. The web designer
then writes the text, creates the art, builds the graphics and
writes the software code to run the program. Some web page designers
also maintain the site for a consulting fee after the site has
been completed. A detailed description of the job of Web Designer
can be found in the Occupational
Outlook Handbook.
Web design requires creativity and graphic
design talent. Technical and programming skills are also used
to write the software code needed to design and maintain the web
page. Course work may include art, math, computer, business and
English courses. Because web design is relatively new there are
no set job requirements.
